Monthly Meetings -

CANCELLED: Due to the blizzard, the FRESH meeting scheduled for February 14, 2010 is cancelled. If possible, the program will be rescheduled.

Topic: Secular Celebrant

Speaker: Roy Bates

Roy Bates, a Secular Celebrant in upstate New York and a First Responder with Final Exit Network, plans to conduct a facilitated discussion of end-of-life concerns with FRESH members and guests. The session will consider points such as: Expenses for health care in the last year of life often exceed combined total expenses for previous years. Is this a reason for the disinformation and lobbying campaigns against end-of-life counseling provisions of proposed health care legislation? Hospitals owned by religious organizations now are forbidden to abide by patients' advance medical directives if they don't comply with the organizations' tenets. Organizations have been formed to oppose government implementation of religious control of our lives and end-of-life choices. We need to consider these and other concerns for ourselves, aging parents, and siblings.
